Metabolic dysfunction–associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is common in people with type 2 diabetes and is a major cause of advanced liver disease, yet it is often under-recognised in routine diabetes care.
Developed by the National Association of Diabetes Centres in collaboration with national clinical experts, the Standards for MAFLD Prevention, Detection and Management in People with Diabetes provide an evidence-based framework to integrate liver health into diabetes services.
The Standards support risk-based screening, early detection, coordinated multidisciplinary care and clear referral pathways, with the aim of reducing preventable liver-related complications and improving long-term outcomes for people living with diabetes.
