MEET OUR PRESENTERS
Mr Matt Quigley MCPO (Hons), School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University
Matt trained as a Prosthetist/Orthotist and has worked in amputation related research including amputation epidemiology and shared decision making for people facing amputation.
Matt has always been passionate about diabetes care and is currently a doctoral student at Monash University, Melbourne. His work involves optimising national diabetes audit and feedback data to help inform improvements in diabetes care. This work also includes redesign of the feedback supplied to sites participating in ANDA, in consultation with stakeholders, to help end users make the most of this important benchmarking data. Matt is supported in his work by Professors Sophia Zoungas and Sally Green, Associate Professor Arul Earnest and the ANDA team.
Dr Elaine Pretorius is the Executive Director of Medical Services for the Limestone Coast Local Health Network, South Australia. She has been a member of the National Australian Diabetes Centres Steering Committee since inception and the Chair of the NADC Accreditation Committee. She is a member of the NADC Foot Network Executive Committee and participated in the development of national standards for accreditation of foot services.
She trained in South Africa as an Endocrinologist and General Physician and came to Australia in 2004 to join the Endocrinology team at Flinders Medical Centre. Dr Pretorius was the Head of Unit for the Diabetes and Endocrine Services and subsequently the Divisional Director for Medicine in the Northern Adelaide Local Network. She was based in NALHN from 2006-2019. She counts clinical governance, quality improvement and change management as special areas of interest.
Dr Pretorius has completed a Master’s Degree in Health Care Management and completed a Fellowship in Medical Administration in 2018.
Dr Pretorius is a passionate cat lover, politics tragic and enjoys embroidery and theatre-going in her spare time.
Michael Sykes is a nurse with experience of leading improvements across health sectors in NHS England and Scotland, including leading national improvement work.
Michael led the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement’s Leading Improvement in Patient Safety (mental health) programme and is currently the quality improvement lead for the National Diabetes Audit.
He also held quality assurance and improvement roles within NHS organisations; for example, he was Patient Safety Manager at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS FT and Clinical Governance Manager at NHS Tayside.
