The RELIEF study is a retrospective study of patients using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), and shows the following outcomes:

  • Clinically significant reduction in hospitalisations in T1D and T2D
  • Sustained over 24 months in patients with T2D
  • Effective in general practice and specialist care
  • 98% continued use at 12 months in patients with T1D and T2D

Prof. Stephen Twigg is Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Medical lead of the Diabetes High-Risk Foot Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) in Sydney, Australia. He is also Kellion Professor of Endocrinology, Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes, in Sydney Medical School and the Charles Perkins Centre, the University of Sydney.

As a physician-scientist, Prof. Twigg’s research program is dedicated to preventing, and managing end-organ complications in diabetes, with a focus on foot disease. He has authored over 200 scientific research publications, with an h-index impact factor of 60 and 11,500+ citations and has supervised 16 PhD students in his program. Prof. Twigg is past President of the Australian Diabetes Society, Honorable Chair of the Australian Diabetes Foot Network of the National Association of Diabetes Centres which has established standards and accreditation for inter-disciplinary high-risk foot services in Australia, and the NDSS DA Foot Forward educational initiative, plus Committee Chair of Diabetes Feet Australia (DFA).

Prof. Twigg is the Australian representative of D-Foot International and an Australian delegate to the IDF General Assembly. He has presented at key forums, including the ADA Scientific Sessions and IDF World Global Congress. He co-chaired 2021 Australian evidence-based guidelines for diabetes-related foot disease and contributed to the DFA Research Agenda 2021.

Dr Gary Deed (MBBS FACNEM & MRACGP & Chair of the RACGP Diabetes Specific Interests Committee) is a dedicated specialist GP with a broad range of extra skills and interests.

In addition to government representation, research and medical education, Dr Deed works closely with his patients to assist them in improving their health.

Dr Deed’s special interests include nutritional & environmental medicine, diabetes management, autism spectrum disorder, cancer, thyroid & adrenal conditions, chronic fatigue, women’s health, fibromyalgia, obesity and heart disease.
