PCD Webinar – 4th March

4 March, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 1:15 pm

Diabetes Complications: Managing the -ologists to bring the care back to a personal experience.

SPEAKERS: Dr Ralph Audehm, Ivan Chan & Tony Seymour

Dr Ralph Audehm is a general practitioner with over 25 years of experience.

He graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1984 and obtained a Diploma from the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1987. He gained a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research in 2005. In 2004 he was made an Honorary Research Fellow and in 2015 a Clinical Associate Professor of The University of Melbourne.

He has a long-standing interest in the management of diabetes in general practice and has instigated and supported many initiatives to improve health outcomes systematically for people with diabetes in Melbourne’s north-west. Ralph has been a member of numerous boards, expert panels and working parties. He believes that primary health care is central in the effective management of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, and that primary care is best coordinated via general practice.

He works at EACH, a community health service based in Ferntree Gully in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, as a community dietitian where he had been for the past 15 years. He frequently involves his allied health professional colleagues to provide a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach to help people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, including their family members, to manage diabetes and enjoy life well.

Ivan also has been with Diabetes Victoria for the past 11 years.

He is a DAFNE-trained dietitian who runs carbohydrate counting workshops for people with type 1 diabetes as well as various diabetes education sessions for health professionals. Whether at work or at play, Ivan enjoys sharing his passion for coffee and chocolate with colleagues, clients and friends alike.

Tony was born in England in 1956 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of seven, so he has now lived with Type 1 diabetes for 57 years.

Tony attended boarding school and university in England before emigrating to Australia at the age of 26 with his wife.

A full-time employee who worked in many industries, and a proud father of three, Tony has experienced retinopathy leaving him with limited vision from one eye only. Having lost his driving licence, he experiences some limitations in terms of having to work and live close to public transport to retain independence.

One of the turning points for him was the new empowerment he felt after attending a Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating program (DAFNE) some ten years ago.
