Speakers: Deborah Schofield and Kylie Mahony

Deb Schofield is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Diabetes Educator. She has wide experience in the field of nutrition and diabetes education with community and regional roles in both Australia and the UK. Her work at Diabetes WA has seen the development of behavioural science, empowerment based approaches to diabetes education in WA and across the country. She is passionate about providing quality, outcome- based self management education for people living with diabetes and capacity building the workforce to raise the standard in quality care. Deb is currently General Manager of Health Services at Diabetes WA.

Kylie Mahony is a highly experience Nurse and Credentialled Diabetes Educator. She has been at the forefront of establishing quality diabetes self-management education programs to support people with their diabetes journey. Kylie has been involved in overseeing university curriculum development of diabetes education courses and is currently a national trainer and quality assessor of health professionals across Australia in the evidence-based diabetes self-management education program, DESMOND. She is skilled in teaching behaviour change techniques to empower health professionals to adopt effective approaches in their practice.
Kylie enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience and has presented at many forums, seminars and conferences, including “Best Novice Oral Presentation” at the 2016 ADS-ADEA Conference when she presented “DESMOND: is it only for the newly diagnosed?”
